The PTA organized two educational talks in this academic year. On 17 December 2005, Mr.
Ng Sze Yuen, writer, experienced cultural and parenting education worker and chairman of
Soul-mate Company Limited, gave the first talk, titled “How to Enhance your Children's
Self-awareness and Self-discipline”. The second talk took place on 8 April 2006. Dr.
Timothy T. Leung, Ph.D, R.Psych, one of the hosts of a popular radio programme on parenting
education and chairman of Dr. Leung & Associates Limited, gave a talk on “Children’s Third
Six Years – Advice to Parents”. Both talks were about the strategies of building up good
parent-child relationship. The audience of each of the talks was close to 200. These talks
were followed by a tea gathering during which parents and teachers shared their views. Many
parents volunteered to prepare refreshments for the tea gatherings.
The PTA also attended the School's annual sports events. Parents took part in the Annual
Swimming Gala held on 16 September 2005. Three parents competed in a 50-metre freestyle
race. For land sports, there were three parent teams competing with two teacher teams in
a 4x100m Parent-Teacher Invitation Relay on the Annual Sports Day on 24 November 2005. One
of the parent teams won the bronze medal. Both parents and teachers enjoyed the fun.
A family outing at Po Leung Kuk Pak Tam Chung Holiday Camp was organized on 26 February
2006. Seventy six persons from twenty-nine families joined the event. While children
participated in different types of recreational activities like ball games, boating and
cycling, many parents took the chance to know each other and chatted on issues about the
schooling of their sons at St. Paul's.
In the light of the movement of cyber culture and the abusive use of Internet among
youngsters, the PTA held an “I.T. Workshop” on 11 March 2006 for Forms 1-3 parents.
Thirty-two parents attended the workshop, which was co-organized by Hong Kong Family
Welfare Association. They learned the uses and fun of the worldwide web and tried to make
sense of the fascination of the cyber world that drew their children to almost the level
of addiction.
The PTA showed its appreciation to the teachers by joining the "Parents Also Appreciate
Teachers Drive" promoted by the Education and Manpower Bureau in April 2006. The teachers
received many appreciation cards with thank-you messages from parents.
A parent-child voluntary service was carried out in the afternoon of 29 April 2006.
The service targets were 60 old people residing at SAGE Madam Ho Sin Hang Home for the
Elderly. Under the guidance of a few social workers, fifty-four parents and children
prepared games and shows for the elderly. All the participants found the activity
meaningful and would like to do more voluntary services in the future.
