Exciting news from the Doctor of Excellence x CUHK Centre for Bioethics: Bioethics Debate Competition held on 14 September 2024! With the support of Shek Chi Chung Percy (6B) and Leung You Lin Frank (6B), a talented team of four students — Chue Toby Wai To (5B), Tse Shing Yau Samuel (4B), Wong Pak Yin Jacky (4B), and Tsang Ho Yin Herman (4C) — showcased their analytical and critical thinking skills by writing a critical essay on a moral dilemma involving organ transplantation. Out of fifteen entrants, they were one of six teams to advance to the next round.
In the final round, they applied their ethical knowledge to tackle five challenging bioethics topics, including whether it is appropriate to use Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) to select for or against certain genetic traits and whether Hong Kong should adopt an opt-out system to enhance organ donation rates. After five rounds of debate, the team secured a well-deserved third place! Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that Wong Pak Yin Jacky (4B) received the Best Debater award. Congratulations to our remarkable students for their hard work and dedication!
