A precious addition to the College Archives - an autographed book by Colonel Evan Stewart, Principal of the College (1930-1958)

Recently, five alumni donated to the College a book written and autographed by Colonel Evan George Stewart, the eighth principal of St. Paul’s College (1930-58).

Colonel Stewart’s book, entitled “A Record of the Actions of the Hong Kong Volunteer Corps in the Battle for Hong Kong December, 1941”, was published in 1953.

His book is a timely, invaluable acquisition to the College Archives as people around the world commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, especially during this month. Colonel Stewart was one of the commanders of No.3 Company of the Hong Kong Volunteer Corps, which was involved in the defence of Hong Kong against the Japanese during World War II.

It is worth mentioning that the acquisition of the book was made possible by a generous donation from five alumni: Dr. Ip Wei Chung, Dr. Fung Kai Bun, Dr. Chow Hing Ping, Dr. Lum Chor Ming Christopher and Dr. Chau Wing Vincent, and with the assistance of the Ricci Hall Archives Conservation and Acquisition Project HKU. We are grateful to them all for their painstaking efforts in acquiring Colonel Stewart’s book for the College.
